A procession of monks with banners and ritual umbrellas outside Zhöl (zhol) wall during the Sertreng Ceremony (tshogs mchod ser sbreng) on the 30th day of the second Tibetan month. Two silk appliqué festival tangkas (thang ka), called göku (gos sku), adorn the south face of the Potala's White Palace. The sewn tangkas, featuring the Buddha surrounded by deities and bodhisattvas, measure 75 x 40 ft. The outer Zhöl pillar, Doring Chima (rdo ring phyi ma), is visible in the center left of the image, along with the two Khangser (khang ser), Chinese-style pagodas, and the Zhöl main gate (gzhung sgo). Kelzang Bridge (bskal bzang zam pa) can be seen in the foreground.Associated Resources
