Lhalung Pelki Dorji the Buddhist monk assassinated the Tibetan King Langdarma in 842 A,D. He had hidden the bows and arrows in the folds of his long sleeves. Thus, the dance was derived from the different traditions of the tantras. Zhana Cham is to celebrate the victory over the assassination of Langdarma.
