The bronze Amida Butsu (Amitabha Buddha) or the Kamakura Daibutsu (Great Buddha of Kamakura) was built in 1252 at the Kōtoku-in. His mudra is specific to Pure Land practices, in which a devotee hopes to be reborn directly into his Western Paradise. It is possible to enter into the Buddha through a small staircase on his rear left side.
