Groups of people gather around a chöten (mchod rten) during the Saga Dawa festival (sa ga zla ba dus chen), which takes place on the 15th day of the fourth month of the Tibetan calendar. The festival celebrates the Buddha Shakyamuni, or Jowo Rinpoché's (jo bo rin po che) birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana. Behind the chöten a long line of pilgrims can be seen walking along the Lingkor (gling skor pilgrimage route that encircles Lhasa. In the background, tall mountain ridges are visible above the trees.Associated Resources
