The Serpent Temple, or Lukhang (klu khang), situated on a small island in the middle of the lake north of the Potala. The temple can be seen in the center of the image, partially concealed behind trees. A man approaches in a boat while another stands in the shadows of the dock waiting for him. The north face (that is, the back) of the Potala rises above the trees in the background.
