by Jessica O'Leary
The south side of the Barkor (bar skor) looking west, with the Potala in the distance. The south side of the Jokhang (jo khang), which housed the Kashag (bka' shag), can be seen in middle distance on the right. The paved square in the center of the image is Sungchöra square (gsung chos ra). The prayer flag pole on the left side of the square is the Kelzang Darchen (bskal bzang dar chen), positioned in front of the house of the 7th Dalai Lama's family, the Yapzhi Sampo (yab gzhis bsam pho), and marking the south side of the Barkor. The house directly below the Potala is the Doring (rdo ring) house. Monks and people crowd the streets.Associated Resources
