The monastery is located north of the Jokhang (jo khang) near Ramoché Temple (ra mo che dgon pa), and was reestablished in this location in the mid-eighteenth century under the 7th Dalai Lama (tA la'i bla ma). A yak hair curtain covers a verandah above the main entrance to the monastery. Potted plants have been placed on the front steps, and the cobblestone foreground is overgrown with grass.
