Crowds gathering in Zhöl (zhol) village and on the steps leading up to the Potala on 13 February 1937 for the Tibetan New Year ceremony, "Sky Dancing Rope Game," or Namdro Taktsé (gnam gro thag rtsed). The ceremony is also known as "Sliding Down the Rope Like a Bird," Jakhen Takshü (bya mkhan thag shud), and is performed on the second day of the 1st month of the Tibetan calendar. A man can be seen spinning on top of the pole in the foreground.
